Boosting Your Self-Worth When People Judge

Answered 13 October 2025 at 6:47 pm PKT

Fatima, it sounds incredibly painful to hear comments about your age and marriage, and it's completely understandable that you feel inferior. Many young women in Pakistan face similar pressure, and these remarks can deeply hurt your sense of value.

Rishta nahi ho raha aur log hamesha comment karte hain meri age nikal gayi. Buhat inferior feel hota hai, apni value hi samajh nahi aati.

Please know that your worth is not determined by your marital status or what other people say about it. Society often sets timelines for life events, especially marriage, but these are just ideas, not rules. Your personal timeline is unique to you, and there's nothing wrong with how your life is unfolding.

True value comes from within, not from ticking off a box on someone else's checklist. This week, try to make a list of all the things you *do* like about yourself and your life. What are your strengths? Are you kind, hardworking, creative, a good friend or daughter? What achievements are you proud of, big or small? What hobbies do you enjoy? Remind yourself of all the good things that make you, *you*.

When people make hurtful comments about your age or marriage, you don't have to absorb them. You can politely change the subject, or say something like, 'Jab Allah chahega tab ho jayega,' or 'Meri apni marzi hai.' You have the right to protect your peace and limit time with those who constantly put you down.

Instead of dwelling on what others say, focus on investing in yourself. Is there a skill you've always wanted to learn, like cooking a new dish, taking an online course, or starting a small home-based business? Pursuing your own interests and growth can be incredibly empowering and reminds you of your capabilities.

Reach out to one or two people in your life who truly uplift you and make you feel good about yourself – a supportive cousin, a close friend, or an understanding aunt. Share how you're feeling. Sometimes just talking about it with someone who cares can make a big difference, showing you that you're not alone in these feelings.

Remember, Fatima, you are valuable and complete exactly as you are, right now. Your worth is inherent and unchanging. Focus on nurturing your own happiness and confidence, and let that be your strongest answer to any negativity.
