Feeling Distant from Allah and Exhausted: Finding Mental Peace in Pakistan

Answered 7 October 2026 at 7:07 pm PKT

Feeling distant from Allah and exhausted can be overwhelming, especially when even small efforts seem to fail. You're not alone in this struggle, and there are ways to find peace and reconnect with your faith.

I feel distant from Allah and exhausted, like nothing I do helps. I miss the simple, playful moments I had with friends during a short period in school, and now I just want mental peace and rest but can't find it. What should I do when even small efforts don't work?

Feeling distant from Allah when you are this exhausted is not a sign that your faith has failed. It is what happens to a person who has been carrying too much for too long — the connection gets tired, not lost. Do not add guilt on top of the tiredness; that only makes the distance feel bigger than it actually is.

When school felt light

You are not just missing those friends. You are missing the version of yourself who was allowed to be playful and unburdened — and that is a real loss, not a childish one. Let that memory stay with you for a bit instead of pushing it away. It is telling you what your life is missing right now: rest and ease, not just company.

How to rest now

Since the big efforts are not working, stop making big efforts. Try things that are almost absurdly small, and do not expect them to fix anything yet.

  • Pray one prayer slowly, with full attention, and do not push yourself to add extra worship on top.
  • Sit outdoors for ten minutes with your phone in another room.
  • Tell one person, "I am very tired," and stop the sentence there — no explanation needed.
  • Write down one school memory in two or three lines, just to let it out.
  • Eat a proper meal and drink water before you decide what your mood means.

None of these will feel like a solution, and that is fine. They are only ways to lower the load so your mind can start returning to itself. The closeness to Allah usually comes back on its own once you stop forcing it — not because you earned it, but because you stopped fighting. Zara is here whenever you need to talk.
