How to Find Peace When You Feel Numb and Sad

Answered 21 October 2026 at 12:43 pm PKT

Feeling numb and sad, especially when you used to be confident and happy, can be deeply distressing. You're not alone, and there are ways to find peace even with limited resources.

I used to be so confident and happy, but now I feel numb and sad, like I'm not really alive. I want to go back to how I was before, but I can't. I want to read novels to escape, but I have responsibilities and no freedom or money for therapy. How can I find peace?

It's hard to feel like you've lost the person you used to be, and it's even harder when responsibilities pile up and make it feel like there's no way out. You're not alone in this, and there are small steps you can take to start finding your way back to yourself.

Try to find small joys

When everything feels heavy, it's easy to forget that small moments can still bring happiness. Try to find one thing each day that brings you a little joy, even if it's just a favourite song or a quiet cup of chai. These small moments can add up and help you feel a bit more like yourself.

Talk to someone you trust

You don't need to go to therapy to talk about what you're feeling. If there's someone in your life you trust—whether it's a family member, a friend, or even a community leader—try talking to them. You don't have to carry this alone, and sometimes just sharing what you're going through can make it feel lighter.

Take care of your body

When you're feeling low, your body needs extra care. Try to eat well, even if it's just small meals, and drink plenty of water. If you can, take short walks outside—even just a few minutes in the fresh air can help. Your body and mind are connected, and taking care of one can help the other.

Be patient with yourself

It's easy to feel like you should be "back to normal" by now, but healing isn't a race. Be kind to yourself and give yourself time. You don't have to force yourself to be happy—just focus on getting through each day, one step at a time. Inshallah, things will get better.
