Overcoming Depression Without Money or Privacy in Pakistan

Answered 22 September 2026 at 2:49 pm PKT

If you're a student in Pakistan feeling low, tired, and unable to focus, you're not alone. This page offers practical, low-cost ways to manage depression when you lack privacy, money, or family support.

I’ve been feeling low, very tired, and restless, and I’m struggling to focus on my studies. I don’t have much privacy, money, or freedom to see a professional, and I’m afraid my family won’t understand—what should I do?

I’m sorry you’re carrying all of this at once. Feeling low, exhausted, restless, and unable to focus can happen together, and you don’t have to solve everything today.

First, check your safety

If you might harm yourself or cannot stay safe, tell a trusted person near you immediately and get urgent medical help. Stay close to another person if you can, and move away from anything you could use to hurt yourself.

Make today smaller

  • Eat something simple, drink water, and rest for 10 minutes if possible.
  • Choose one tiny study task, such as reading one page or writing five lines.
  • If your body feels restless, walk slowly or stretch for a few minutes.
  • Don’t force a long study session when your mind is already overloaded.

Find one safe person

You do not have to convince your whole family first. Choose one relatively safe person—a sibling, cousin, teacher, classmate, or neighbour—and say, “I haven’t been sleeping or concentrating, and I need help.”

If privacy is difficult, write your message instead of explaining everything face to face.

Use what is free

Depression.pk has a free self-test at /test, plus questions and answers, tools, and a mindfulness guide. These cannot diagnose you, but they may help you understand what to say to someone.

If you later get some freedom or money, /find-help can show professional options, including ways to ask about lower-cost support.

You are not weak—lack of privacy, money, and family understanding are real barriers. Do one small thing today: eat, rest briefly, and complete one small study task. Zara is here to talk through what feels heaviest.
