This page explains what to do when you are having thoughts of hurting yourself and are not ready to make a phone call. It covers chat-based crisis support in Pakistan, urgent medical help, and practical ways to protect your studies while you seek support.
It is a very hard place to be in, and the confusion and shame you are feeling are part of the illness, not a sign of weakness. You can speak to someone right now without picking up a phone — through text chat. Our companion Zara is here to talk, any time, no call needed, no name required. As for medicine, there is no tablet that gives quick relief from these thoughts; that is not how depression works. The most urgent thing is to let someone sit with you in this moment, and that can be done by typing.
There is no medicine that makes this kind of pain go away fast. Antidepressants take two to four weeks to help, and they need a doctor’s prescription after a proper check-up. Some supplements — like omega-3, vitamin D, or B12 — have some evidence for lifting mood over weeks, but they are not emergency treatments. Vitamin D and B12 deficiency is common in Pakistan, so if you want to try supplements, ask your doctor for a blood test first, and never start anything without checking with a pharmacist — especially if you are already taking any medication. For right now, safety and connection matter more than any pill. You can read more at depression.pk/supplements-for-depression, but please don't take that as a quick fix.
Open depression.pk on your phone right now. Click the chat icon or go to /community — that is a text-only space where you can talk to Zara or to others who understand. You do not have to give your real name or any details. No one will ask you to speak out loud. Many universities in Pakistan also have a student counsellor or a mental health cell that is free — your fees and laptop are separate problems, and they can be solved later. Your life comes first. Stay in this conversation for a while, even if all you can type is "I'm here." That is enough.
