Most of the people who write to this site are not acutely unwell. They are exhausted, frightened about money, grieving, or living with a family situation they cannot change — and that is counselling work, not psychiatry. It is the single biggest gap between what arrives here and who is available to take it, which is why this role asks for twelve months rather than twenty-four.
Qualification: MSc, MS or MPhil in Counselling or Applied Psychology. You must be 18 or over.
The arrangement, the same for every role here. You are self-employed. You set your own fee, and there is no charge to be listed. The patient pays you directly and in full — nothing is deducted and nothing is held by us. For a session we introduced, 10% of that fee comes back to us afterwards, towards the video rooms, the booking system and the running costs; this is a charity project and patients are never charged for anything. You keep your own patients, and nothing is owed on work that did not come through us. Your phone number and your address are never published: enquiries reach you through us. You decide your own hours and how many people you take. We check your qualifications, and your registration where your profession has a register, before anybody is approved — nobody is listed on their own word. We do not supervise your clinical practice and we do not carry your indemnity.
Applying takes about ten minutes and puts you in front of a human, not a filter. We check registration numbers against the council register before replying, so allow a few days. You can see and change your application any time at depression.pk/application.
