He Told Me Not to Contact Him – Does He Still Love Me?

Answered 17 October 2026 at 7:34 pm PKT

If you're desperate to get your ex back but he asked for space, you're not alone. This page helps you understand his feelings, why giving space actually works, and how to stop yourself from reaching out.

I want him back but he told me not to contact him. I'm scared if I give him space he'll forget me and find someone else. Does he still love me, and how can I stop myself from texting him?

That is genuinely hard. You are stuck between two fears—losing him by staying silent and losing him by pushing. You want an answer that only he can give, and not having one is eating you alive.

You asked whether he still loves you. The honest answer is that nobody here can know that, and guessing will only twist the knife. What we *can* say is that when someone asks for no contact, it does not automatically mean the love is gone. Sometimes it means they are hurting too, or they need quiet to figure out what they want. What it definitely does *not* mean is that chasing him will bring him back. In fact, the more you text, the more likely he is to feel pressured and pull further away—giving him space is your best shot at keeping the door open rather than slamming it shut.

Now for the second part—how to stop yourself from texting him. You do not need to stop wanting to. You just need to delay the action long enough to let the urge pass.

What helps when your fingers itch to message him

  • Write it somewhere he will never see. Open the notes app or a paper diary and write exactly what you want to say. All of it. Then close it. You got it out of your system without sending it. Do this as many times as it takes.
  • Set a hard rule for yourself. For example: "I will not text him until tomorrow morning at the earliest." Tomorrow morning you can push it to the next day. Most impulses fade within twenty minutes—if you distract yourself for that long, the urge weakens.
  • Remember why you are doing this. You are not giving him space because you have given up. You are giving him space because begging and chasing almost always make the other person feel more trapped, not more in love. Staying silent is not weakness—it is the one thing that might make him wonder about you.
  • Lean on someone who knows the story. If you have a trusted friend or family member, tell them you are struggling and ask if you can call them instead of texting him. If you do not have that, talk to Zara here on the site—she is from our team and will listen without judging.

You are scared he will forget you, but real connection does not vanish in a few days or even weeks. People forget what they do not care about. If he cared, he will not forget—he will miss you. And if he does not miss you, no amount of texting would have kept him anyway. That is a hard truth, but it is also a freeing one.

Right now, look after yourself. Eat something, get some sleep, cry if you need to. You do not have to figure out the whole future tonight. Just get through the next hour without sending that message. You can do that.
