Answered 17 October 2026 at 1:10 pm PKT

This page offers practical strategies to manage health anxiety, especially the fear of nausea, vomiting, heart attacks, and dying. You'll learn how to cope with these intense fears and reduce their impact on your daily life.

I have health anxiety and I'm scared of nausea, vomiting, and heart attacks. I have frequent stomach problems and I'm constantly afraid of dying. How can I cope with this fear?

Aap are dealing with a genuine and exhausting set of fears. Many people go through similar struggles, and it's important to know that you're not alone. Let's take this step by step.

Understand what’s happening

Health anxiety can make even small physical sensations feel like serious threats. Your stomach problems might be making this worse, but it doesn’t mean you’re in immediate danger. The fear itself can cause physical reactions like nausea, which then feeds back into the anxiety. This is a cycle, and breaking it takes time and effort.

Break the cycle

  • Ground yourself in the present. When you feel overwhelmed, focus on your surroundings. Name five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. This helps pull your mind away from the fear.
  • Challenge anxious thoughts. Ask yourself: “Is there real evidence that I’m having a heart attack, or is this anxiety?” Often, the answer is the latter.
  • Slow your breathing. Breathe in for four counts, hold for four, and exhale for six. This can help calm your body’s physical response to fear.

Seek professional help

If this fear is affecting your daily life, it may be helpful to speak with a mental health professional. At Depression.pk, we have volunteers who can support you. You can also find a professional through our [find-help](depression.pk/find-help) page. There’s no shame in asking for help, and it could make a big difference in how you cope.
