How to Stop Loving Someone Who Doesn't Value Your Sacrifices

Answered 12 October 2026 at 11:17 pm PKT

If you've been giving your all to someone who doesn't even remember your birthday, it's time to turn that love inward. This page helps you understand why you hold on and how to start choosing yourself without guilt.

I'm in my twenties and I've been doing everything for someone I love — taking extra jobs, praying Tahajjud — but he didn't even remember my birthday. I know I've given him enough of my heart, but how do I actually stop and start caring for myself?

That is genuinely hard. You have given so much, and it hurts to feel unappreciated. It is time to take care of yourself, and you can do this.

Let yourself feel what you feel

It is okay to feel sad or angry. You do not have to pretend for anyone. Cry if you need to, or just sit quietly with your feelings. Do not push them away.

Set clear boundaries

You have been doing too much for too long. It is time to say no. You do not have to take extra jobs or do things that drain you. Tell the person you love that you need space. You do not have to explain why.

Focus on yourself

Do things that make you happy. Spend time with friends who care about you. Take a walk, read a book, or do anything that brings you joy. You deserve to be happy too.
