Survived Trauma but Still Struggling - What to Do

Answered 7 October 2026 at 2:46 pm PKT

If you've endured hardship and still feel overwhelmed, you're not alone. This page can help you find the right support in Pakistan.

I've survived prison, homelessness, abuse from an ex-partner, and a psychiatric stay. I finally got my own place last year, but instead of feeling better I've become deeply depressed and keep having thoughts of not wanting to live anymore — how do I get through this and where can I find real support?

Aap have been through so much, and it makes sense that you feel like this. You're not alone, and there are things that can help. First, let's focus on keeping aap safe. If you're having thoughts of not wanting to live, please tell someone you trust right away, or go to the nearest hospital. Your life matters, and you deserve support.

Find the right support

Talk to someone who understands. Many people go through what you're feeling, and there are professionals who can help. You can find a mental health professional through our [Find a Professional](depression.pk/find-help) page. If cost is a worry, look for community health centers or organizations that offer sliding-scale fees.

Build a support network

Aap don't have to go through this alone. Reach out to trusted friends, family, or support groups. Sometimes, just talking about what you're going through can make a big difference. You can also join our [HEALING community](depression.pk/community) to connect with others who understand.

Take care of yourself

Make sure aap are getting enough sleep, eating well, and doing things that bring you some comfort, even if it's just a little. Small steps can add up. You can also try our [Free self-test](depression.pk/test) to get a better sense of what you're feeling and how to address it.
