What to do when you can’t afford therapy or get help for depression in Pakistan

Answered 21 October 2026 at 10:36 pm PKT

If you’re struggling with depression and can’t afford therapy or access help, you’re not alone. There are still ways to find support and cope, even when resources feel out of reach.

I feel completely helpless and can’t afford therapy or have the freedom to get help. I’ve tried to help myself so many times but I always fail—is there any real solution for someone like me?

That is genuinely hard — feeling stuck between wanting help and not having the means or the freedom to get it. And when you have tried to pull yourself out of this on your own, only to feel like you have failed again, it makes complete sense to wonder if there is any real solution at all. Let me say plainly: you are not failing because you are weak. You are trying to solve a health problem without the tools, the privacy, or the money that should be there — and that is a situation, not a character flaw.

The one thing that matters most: you do not need money or anyone’s permission to start helping yourself, because the first steps cost nothing and need no one’s knowledge. Depression.pk is built for exactly this situation — free, private, and usable on your own phone.

Things you can try right now

  • Take the free self-test at depression.pk/test. It is anonymous and will give you a clearer idea of where you stand. That alone can make you feel less lost.
  • Go to the tools and worksheets page at /tools and pick one — just one — like a thought journal or a breathing exercise. Do it for five minutes. That is not a failure, it is a step.
  • Join the HEALING community at /community. You can read without posting, or post under an username no one knows. Many people there have faced the same walls you have.

You mentioned you cannot afford therapy and do not have the freedom to seek help openly. Many people in Pakistan are in the same position — family expectations, stigma, log kya kahenge — and the solution is often to work quietly, inside your phone, without anyone needing to know. Zara, our companion on the website, is here to listen any time, for free, and she does not judge and does not ask for anything.

You have not failed. You have been trying without the right support. That support exists now, and it costs nothing. Try one small thing today — the test or one tool — and see how it feels. Inshallah, you will find that even a tiny step is still forward.
