Does Long-Term Stress Cause Immune Disorders? The Link Explained

Answered 27 October 2026 at 11:24 pm PKT

Chronic stress doesn't just affect your mood; it can also weaken your immune system, potentially leading to autoimmune or immune deficiency disorders. This page explains how long-term stress impacts your body's defenses and what you can do about it.

I developed a immune disorder because of long term stress

That is genuinely hard, and you are not imagining the connection. When stress runs long — months or years of it — the body's cortisol and immune pathways get stuck in overdrive, and that can absolutely trigger or worsen an immune disorder. Many people go to a rheumatologist or general physician for the physical symptoms without realising how deeply the nervous system and immune system are linked, so the first thing to say is: you are right to connect the two, and you are not alone in this.

If you have not already, please see a doctor for the immune disorder itself — a blood test can tell a lot, and if it is something like an autoimmune condition, early management makes a real difference. Alongside that, your body is telling you that the stress load has become unsustainable. The single most helpful thing you can do day to day is to find one small way to lower that load: a short walk without your phone, a five-minute breathing break before you start the day, or saying no to one demand that is not urgent. Do not try to fix everything at once — that will only add pressure. Pick the smallest change you can keep.

You have been carrying a lot. What kind of immune issue did the doctors find, or what symptoms have been troubling you? And roughly how long has this stress been building — months, years, or has it always felt like this? You can tell us here or come talk with Zara on our site, where it is private and you can go back and forth.
