Feeling Like a Burden and Too Tired to Try? Help

Answered 19 September 2026 at 11:02 pm PKT

If you feel like a burden to everyone around you and too exhausted to even pray or get out of bed, you're not alone. This page explains why depression drains your energy and offers small, practical steps to begin feeling lighter.

I feel like I'm a burden to everyone around me, and I'm so tired of feeling this way. I try to do things like waking up early and praying, but I still feel heavy and exhausted. How do I get out of this when I don't even have the energy to try anymore?

That feeling of being a burden is heavy, and the exhaustion you describe – the kind that doesn't lift even after praying or waking up early – is real. You're not weak or failing at anything. What you're describing sounds like depression itself: it makes everything feel pointless and drains every ounce of energy, including the energy to try. So please hear this: you are not a burden. The illness is the burden, and it is lying to you.

It's understandable that you're tired of trying and getting nowhere. The key is not to try harder, but to try differently – to start so small that even a low battery can manage it.

Here are a few things to try when you have zero energy:

  • For one day, drop every expectation except one: breathe and stay alive. Let go of waking early, praying perfectly, being useful. Just exist.
  • Do one tiny physical thing – stand up, stretch your arms, or walk from your room to the kitchen. No goal, just movement.
  • Talk to one person you trust, even if it's just saying “I'm not okay” with no explanation. If no one feels safe, write it down and throw it away.
  • Eat something with protein and fat – a boiled egg, yogurt, or a handful of nuts. Low fuel makes everything worse.
  • Remind yourself: this feeling will pass. It may not pass today, but depression comes in waves, not forever.

You don't have to fix everything at once. Just do the next small step. If you want to talk this through, Zara from our team is here whenever you need.
