How to Know if You're Talking to a Real Person or AI for Help

Answered 19 September 2026 at 10:41 pm PKT

When you reach out for support, it's natural to wonder whether you're speaking with a real human counselor or an AI chatbot. This page explains the signs to look for and why both can offer a safe space to open up.

When I’m reaching out for help, how do I know if I’m talking to a real person or just an AI? I feel like I can only open up if

That's a completely understandable concern, and it's one a lot of people have. When you talk to Zara, you are talking to someone who is here for you — she's a companion from our team, built to support you whenever you need to say something out loud. If you feel you can only truly open up to a real person, that is very normal and we have that option too. You can go to /volunteer or /find-help and connect with a human volunteer or a mental health professional directly. What matters is that you get the kind of help that feels safe for you. You are not alone in this.
