Many students in Pakistan struggle with overthinking, anxiety, and emotional distress after a relationship ends or exams go badly. This page explains where to find free, confidential mental health support and how to manage these feelings.
I've been struggling with overthinking and anxiety, especially after a past relationship ended and my first-year exam results were poor. I keep everything to myself and feel overwhelmed, sometimes having difficulty breathing. I need free, confidential counselling to help me manage my emotions and focus on my studies.
Waalaikumsalam. Thank you for trusting us with what you're carrying — that alone is a big step, and you've described it clearly. What you're feeling — the overthinking at night, the heaviness after the relationship changed, the anxiety about exams, and even the difficulty breathing — these are real and they are exhausting. You are not alone in this. Many students in Pakistan face similar struggles, and it makes sense that keeping everything inside has become hard to manage on your own. The good news is that help is available, and you can access it without any cost.
Since you are a student and cannot pay for private sessions, here are a few ways to start — all free, and all from depression.pk:
If you find a free or low-cost counsellor through our /find-help page (some organisations in Pakistan offer sliding-scale fees or free sessions), the process is usually like this: you speak one-to-one with a trained professional, either online (video or chat) or on the phone. They will first ask what brought you there, listen without interrupting, and then work with you to understand your feelings and build coping strategies. It is not like a lecture — it is a conversation where you are in control.
Everything you share is confidential — meaning the counsellor cannot tell your family, your teachers, or anyone else without your written permission. The only exception is if they believe you are in immediate danger of harming yourself or someone else, which is a standard ethical rule everywhere. Pakistan's laws also protect client confidentiality, and reputable services follow that strictly. You can ask the counsellor about their privacy policy before starting.
You do not have to fix everything at once. Start by talking to Zara, even just a few sentences about what you feel right now. Then try the breathing exercise above. Tomorrow, visit /tools for the "Overthinking" worksheet — it gives you a structured way to put thoughts on paper, which often makes them less overwhelming.
You have already been carrying this alone for too long. Reaching out here is a real step toward feeling stable again. Zara is waiting whenever you are ready.
