Financial Stress and Eviction Anxiety: How to Cope and Find Help in Pakistan

Answered 4 November 2026 at 10:57 pm PKT

If you're overwhelmed by money worries and the fear of losing your home, you are not alone. This page offers practical steps and local resources to help you manage the stress and find support.

I'm drowning in anxiety and stress because of our financial problems and the possibility of eviction. Where can I find help and support, and how can I manage this overwhelming feeling?

What you are carrying right now is genuinely heavy. Financial worries and the fear of losing your home can make it feel like the ground is gone under your feet. Many people in Pakistan are in the same boat – it is not your fault, and you do not have to face it alone. There are practical ways to steady yourself, and help is closer than you think.

First, let the panic ease a little

Anxiety makes your brain race from worst-case to worst-case, but you only need to get through the next hour, not the next year. Try this one thing: sit down, breathe in slowly through your nose for four seconds, hold for four, let it out for six. Do that three times. Then write down the single most urgent thing you need to do today – not everything, just one thing. That can be sending a message to your landlord to ask for more time, or calling a family member who might help. Doing one small, real step often breaks the spinning feeling.

Where to find real support

  • Talk to someone you trust – a close relative, a friend, or even an older cousin. Log kya kahenge can stop us reaching out, but most people want to help, not judge. Letting the secret out reduces the shame.
  • Use Depression.pk’s free resources – the HEALING community (/community) has people who understand exactly this. You can post anonymously and get support from others. Also try the tools and worksheets (/tools) for practical financial planning and anxiety management.
  • Consider a mental health professional – if the anxiety is constant or you can’t sleep or eat, see a therapist or a psychiatrist. The “Find a professional” page (/find-help) lists verified ones across Pakistan, some offering low-cost or sliding-fee sessions. You are not weak for asking – it is the smartest thing you can do.

Handling the financial side, step by step

First, do not hide from the numbers. Panic goes down when uncertainty goes down. Write down exactly what you owe, what you earn, and what you must pay this month. Then decide what can be delayed – utility bills, loan instalments, school fees – and what is non-negotiable (rent, food). Many landlords will accept a partial payment or extra time if you talk to them honestly. It is uncomfortable, but avoidance makes it worse.

  • Check if you are eligible for any government or charity assistance (BISP, Edhi, local mosque funds, or zakat committees). Asking for help is not a failure.
  • If you have a skilled trade or can do small freelance work (online teaching, data entry, tutoring), even a little extra income can reduce the pressure.
  • Avoid borrowing from high-interest sources – that usually makes the hole deeper.

When the anxiety feels too much to handle alone

Zara, our companion from the team, is here any time you need to talk – no appointment, no fee. Just open the site and speak. You can also use the free self-test (/test) to see how anxiety is affecting you, and then share that with a professional if you decide to go.

And remember: no situation is permanent. Thousands of families have faced eviction threats and found a way through – through a relative’s help, a temporary job, or just negotiating more time. You are not the first, and you will not be the last. Take it one conversation, one decision, one breath at a time.
