It can happen after childbirth, but it is not something to dismiss as ordinary tiredness—and it does not make you a bad mother. You can love your baby deeply and still be exhausted, angry, guilty, or unwell. Because you are thinking about hurting yourself, you need support today.

Are you safe right now? Have you made a plan, chosen a time, or gathered anything you could use—and are you afraid you might hurt the baby too? If you might act on these thoughts, put the baby safely in the cot, move away from anything you could use to hurt yourself, and ask an adult nearby to stay with you immediately. If there is immediate danger, use emergency services.
