Understanding Domestic Abuse and Its Impact

Asked by Nimra, Abbottabad · 30 May 2026 at 10:54 pm PKT

It's never your fault when a partner hurts you, despite what they might say. This page helps you understand domestic abuse, its signs, and how it affects your well-being.

My husband hits me when he is angry and afterwards he tells me I provoked it. I cannot sleep properly and I flinch now when anyone near me raises a hand. Is something wrong with me?

It sounds like you are going through an incredibly difficult and painful time, and it's completely understandable that you're asking if something is wrong with you. Please know that the way you are feeling – the difficulty sleeping, the flinching – these are not signs that something is wrong with *you*. Instead, they are very natural and common reactions to being in a situation where you are not safe and where you are experiencing fear and harm.

When someone you should be able to trust causes you physical pain and then tries to blame you for it, it creates a deep sense of confusion and distress. Your body and mind are reacting to a threat, and it's exhausting to live with that constant tension. What your husband is doing, hitting you, is never acceptable, and it is never your fault, no matter what he says to try and justify his actions. You do not deserve to be treated this way.

It's important to remember that you are not alone in experiencing something like this, and help truly does exist. Taking care of your own well-being is crucial right now. Sometimes, just being able to talk openly and in confidence with someone who understands can make a world of difference. You might consider reaching out to a trusted family member or a close friend, or you can talk to Zara here at Depression.pk, who is always available to listen without judgment and help you explore your options safely.
