What just happened to you

Listen: English اردو · Uzma اردو · Asad

A panic attack is the body’s emergency system firing when there is no emergency. Adrenaline floods in, the heart speeds up to move blood to the muscles, breathing goes fast and shallow, and the hands and face tingle because of the change in blood chemistry. Every symptom that frightens you is part of a system designed to save your life, running at the wrong moment.

One thing first, and it matters: if you have chest pain, crushing pressure, pain down an arm, or this started during physical exertion, see a doctor and get your heart checked. Everything in this course works better once a real cause has been ruled out, and nobody should be breathing through a heart attack.

  2. Next to each, write what the body is doing: heart fast - moving blood; tingling - fast breathing; dizzy - fast breathing; unreal feeling - the brain narrowing focus.
  3. Circle the one that frightens you most.
  4. That is the one your mind calls danger, and it is the one to understand.
